Rising proudly at 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet) above sea level, Mount Everest is the highest point on Earth a timeless symbol of nature’s power, beauty, and danger. Known as “Sagarmatha” in Nepal and “Chomolungma” in Tibet, this colossal mountain lies in the Mahalangur Himal range of the Himalayas, straddling the border between Nepal and China (Tibet Autonomous Region). The mid-ocean ridges are vast underwater mountain chains where tectonic plates diverge, allowing molten rock, or magma, to rise from the Earth’s mantle. This magma, once it reaches the ocean floor, cools rapidly in the cold seawater, creating new crust and sometimes forming underwater mountains.
